We Are Making Chic Happen!!!
It is hard to believe but it has been a month and a half since we opened the doors to Chic Influencer. Katy and I (Melanie) have been dreaming and planning this business for years now. We felt called really stronger in the last month to stop talking about our vision and to make it a reality. Katy and I have been building our own businesses primarily through social media and live events over the past 7 1/2 years. We met each other in college where we were Alpha Sigma Alpha Sisters at UPJ. When we re connected through social media and bumped in to each other at a local restaurant we started to chat about how much we both loved health and fitness. Katy and I partnered together in 2012 through our health and fitness company. Katy was teaching at that time and I was a stay at home mom to my two little boys. Over the years we have grown in our friendship, in our business relationship and we have gone through a lot of crazy ups and downs of life together.
Katy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma right after her youngest Dominic was born. She is now in remission but during that time of treatment she realized that she had a gift. She had a gift for inspiring others through her struggle. She created the nonprofit Every Sweat Matters, she created a mission and a tribe around sweating for those that cannot. She is an incredible motivator, story teller and a true example of perseverance and strength through challenge. Katy walked away from her teaching job to teach on a different platform. She now inspires thousands through her social media, through sharing her challenges and joys of life as a business owner, boy mom and leader! She is an incredible story teller and she has a gift of letting people know that no matter what life throws at you, you can succeed! Your story matters and someone out there needs you to tell it!
I am also a mom of 2 little boys (8 and 10) and I live about 20 minutes from Katy just north of Pittsburgh. I have my undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters In Special Education. I walked away from my career in 2011 to stay home to raise our boys. About 6 months later I realized that being a stay at home mom was awesome but I really missed the income, the feeling of contribution and I had some really big goals for my life and I saw an opportunity to work from home and also to determine my own work hours around my kids. I started building my business at my kitchen table during the early morning hours, nap times and evenings/weekends. I have a passion for inspiring people to live their best life, to teach people how to dream big, to work hard, to be disciplined and organized and to treat their business like a business. I love sharing what I learn through my social media platforms and I find great joy in knowing I could help inspire someone to take action today. I love marketing, time management and strategic planning. I never knew I was wired this way until 7 years ago!
Katy and I are both six and seven figure earners with our company, we have spoke on stage at corporate events, annual conferences and to audiences of business owners.
We get asked all of the time “how did you do it?” People are curious how we have grown our brand and our teams. Everything from social media, to story telling, tracking your business, email marketing, blogging, live videos, Instagram stories, CRM, leadership, vision, dealing with obstacles and more.
We also feel like there isn’t a one stop shop for business owners to get everything that they need to grow a successful business FROM a BUSINESS OWNER who is also doing it too!
Chic Influencer was designed for business owners BY business owners! Our mission is to help you navigate the messy middle of business. To take your big idea and turn it into profit. Chic is a place where women in business can get support, training, resources and friendship to make your goals a reality.
In January 2019, we launched the first phase of Chic Influencer, the Chic Community! We went live with our Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Community. The Chic Community is a membership based service that anyone regardless of the industry that they are in can join. Each Monday there is a featured training of the week with Katy or Melanie. Every Wednesday there is a resource uploaded related to the topic of the week and on Friday’s we do our Q&A live. You pull up a chair and have a virtual cup of coffee with us! We answer any and all questions you have from the week prior. This is where we truly get real with you on what it takes to own and grow a business.
Each month we have a new training calendar, a new theme for the month and our community has access to our online community portal and our closed Facebook Group. Katy and I interact in there daily, answer questions and give real business advice. We share books we love, resources we use, and help you navigate business! Each month we also have a featured guest speaker. January we had Bob Heilig from Your Virtual Upline dropping some amazing truth bombs on our members. This month we have Brea Schmitt a blogger, photographer and story teller sharing her best practices for quality social media, telling your story and connecting people to your message and mission.
We knew that growing a new business would take time and a lot of heart work. We had no idea how fast it would grow but we knew that it was a service that was needed. We decided to take the leap of faith and figure the details out along the way! Honestly, this was exactly how we built our very first businesses. Lots of faith and patience!!!
We are excited to share that in our very first month, we enrolled 297 Chic Community Members to our family!
