Today, we have a very special Make Chic Happen episode, with guest Coach Monique DeMonaco. She is going to speak with us about triggers that cause anxiety during stressful times.
Coach Monique is a business coach for entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, women influencers, and she’s really known for helping people unlock triggers that cause stress, anxiety, and depression to help them create bold change in their lives. Some of her trademark techniques are based in social and emotional intelligence, brain science, and the psychology of happiness. She is also the author of “Most People Don’t Need a Therapist, They Just Need a Change.” When you strip away all of her certifications and licenses, Coach Monique is an incredible woman who really just genuinely wants to help you transform your life.
Coach Monique shares with us a little bit about just stress, anxiety, fear, and triggers that cause panic in times that we are currently in. I (Melanie) know so many people out there right now in business, in life, and relationships really are struggling with some of these things, especially because of all the changes that are going on in the world right now.
TRIGGERS (AVG PERSON HAS 65,000 THOUGHTS A DAY):
1. Negative thoughts
2. Negative beliefs
3. Negative interpretations of past experiences
WAYS TO HELP:
1. Delete delete technique- when you say the word delete, your mind creates a story or an experience- how it works- anytime you recognize you said something negative or engage in negative thought- say out loud- “delete delete” and replace it with a positive- raises awareness of thought patterns, and it also gives you an easy to use technique to make gentle, non-judgmental decisions
EXAMPLE- Worried about money or finances? – if you’re having fears about money, say delete delete, I’m safe in my home right now, I have all that I need right now.
2. Instead of broadcasting with negative emotions, broadcast positive emotions with positive previous experiences!
EXAMPLE- Worried about business? Focus on a time when you felt successful and were in that flow of doing well. RECALL- What is the visual? The sounds? The experiences you felt in the body? Magnify all sensations and make them crisp in your mind.
3. When we are grateful, we send out different thoughts, we feel differently, and we focus on what we already have- therefore, causing you to be more positive and repel positive feelings towards others around you
EXAMPLE- Be grateful for money you have, for clients you have, and the opportunities you have now.
Coach Monique’s Top 3 Tips to Shift to a More Positive Mindset:
1. Write down three deep things you are grateful for: GET CREATIVE: Don’t let this become normalized: Provide novel experiences
2. As you move throughout the day, think about one of those things.
3. End of day, focus back on your list
Keeping Stress Out of Relationships During This Time:
Monique’s Tips: Body is a barometer
1. When you need to have difficult situations, key into your body to show up differently and interrupt negative patterns- leading to good outcomes.
“The only power you have to change your relationship is to change how you show up in that relationship”
2. If you always have the same conversation or same outcomes over and over, mostly we want the other person to change so we can be happy, low success rate with that method, think about how you can say something differently or show up differently.
3. Keep yourself more relaxed by recognizing patterns you’re bringing and recognizing those
4. Express gratitude What are 3 things about this person that you love and inspires you? Don’t focus on everything that is wrong with this person- think about everything that you like/love/respect/inspires you- will cause relationship to positively shift naturally overtime
5. Don’t participate in negative patterns to force patterns to change.
6. Take back ability to be in charge of yourself- the only true power you have- get in that positive space, everything in your life will shift.
