3 Tips to Boost Quality Engagement on Social Media
As a business owner, you know Instagram is more than just a platform to showcase your family, vacations and life as a dog mom. Instagram is a powerful and effective tool for building your brand (and business).
There is an incredible amount of potential for sales (& credibility)when you use Instagram for your business.
In order to truly utilize this platform, you can’t compare effectiveness based solely on likes and amount of followers. When we are speaking with our Chic Community and mentorships, we see this as a common theme and concern.
You have to focus less on the amount of followers you have and more on ENGAGEMENT (commonly known as Content Interactions).
So what exactly is ENGAGEMENT?
Sadly, it doesn’t have anything to do with a diamond :)
If the next word ‘interaction’ came to mind, then you are on the right track.
Yes, engagement on Instagram entails the amount of likes you get on a photo BUT it is also SO MUCH MORE. Other contributing factors of engagement are:
- Interactive Comments (yes, it’s important to reply!)
- Shares
- Saves
- Direct Messages
- Website Taps
- Mentions
- Followers & Growth
These sort of actions are proof that people aren’t just seeing your content. They’re actively interested in what you have to say and you are building your trust and credibility. This can be tracked through IMPRESSIONS & REACH.
So why do we care about engagement?
Having great engagement means that your content is making an impact on your audience – aka you’re building trust and credibility! We know how important that is when you are promoting your products and services!
Secondly, having a strong engagement is a KEY factor in Instagram’s algorithm.
(PS want to learn more about algorithm, check out the Make Chic Happen Podcast Episode 95: 3 Tips to Make Algorithm Work in Your Favor with Katy Ursta)
The higher the engagement, the more likely it is that the content will be boosted in the newsfeed, attracting more eyes and attention. These sort of actions are evidence that people aren’t just seeing your content. They’re actively interested in what you have to say.
Importantly, engagement only has value when it’s genuine and understanding it is a 2-way street. You can have 1M followers but if you aren’t having any sort of engagement, that number means nothing.
You get out of social media what you put in. And today we are sharing with you 3 ways to boost your quality of engagement on social media!
1.Collaboration Over Competition
If you follow along with Chic Influencer, you know how much we love collaborating with others!
The best way to do this is to feature other entrepreneurs who can also serve your audience (and vice versa!)
This is a great way to not only help another sister out BUT it also caters to YOUR audience and customers!
Yes, it’s possible some services could overlap but you want your customers to grow and be successful! Allowing your audience to see other entrepreneurs who can also serve them in their business journey is CRUCIAL!
It’s a great opportunity for both you and the other person to gain awareness and credibility!
2. Begin Creating Reels
Reels is a great way to build your audience and grow your reach on Instagram. It’s a fun and engaging way to share viral (and creative!) snippets with your audience.
Instagram Reels is proving to be a space where both brands and creators can make waves.
Something we’ve noticed with our Chic Community is people are afraid of Reels! But all we can say is just TRY! Check out some other accounts similar to you and see how they are utilizing this feature!
On our latest episode of the Make Chic Happen Podcast, our guest Rachel Thomsen talks ALL about her early relationship with Reels.
Moral of the story: step out of your comfort zone!
3. Post Saveable & Shareable Content
Creating reference material your audience will want to save in their Collections can earn you a little engagement boost, too.
Here at Chic, we love posting content with quotes that touch on inspiration, business or just overall fun! When people like or agree with something, they are most likely going to share it with their followers.
Protip: Create a graphic that is easy to read and visually appealing (we use Canva) and always include your IG handle somewhere on the image!
