Hey there friends! We are so excited about the launch of the Make Chic Happen podcast. This podcast has been in the works for months now and we cannot wait for you to join us each Monday for a new episode!
Our very first episode, Introduce Make Chic Happen introduces your hosts Katy Ursta and Melanie Mitro. They talk about how they got their businesses started and the reasons why they launched the Make Chic Happen podcast.
Meet Katy Ursta
Katy considers herself to be an accidental entrepreneur, she didn’t even know that she had it in her to work for herself and let alone the idea that business entrepreneurship was in her future!
She was a 7th grade reading teacher for years and enjoys all things teaching and education. Katy LOVES the power of storytelling. She loves helping others craft there stories into the bottom line.
Katy started her business by only wanting to just pay for her groceries and wanted to know was how to get ahead and make end meets? She fell into working with a health and wellness networking company and saw the opportunity to make a change in her life. Katy has dealt with many challenges, which is what makes her success so relatable. Everyone is faced with obstacles and Katy can relate to that 110%. In 2014, she was a year and half into her networking business and got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. At the time, her boys were just 4 and 4 months old. She had just lost her health care benefits as well. This networking side gig turned into a must gig that changed her perspective, not only on CEO life but business ownership as well. All she wanted to do was share her views on health as she was battling cancer and sweating for something so much bigger. As she was sharing her story with her battle and sharing on social media, her business started to grow.
There was a ripple effect of the mission which she had connected back to her networking business. People were investing in Katy because she gave them hope and that we all have stories of our very own. Katy will be five years cancer free in August and is very active in the cancer community.
Melanie was one of the first people Katy told about her diagnosis of cancer. Melanie said: “what are WE going to do?”. This simple word shifted her friendship with Melanie and the way Katy looked at her diagnosis. It was something that she did not have to take on alone, she was going to battle cancer as a community. You want to be surrounded by people that are genuinely rooting for you, which is rare to come by nowadays.
Meet Melanie Mitro
Melanie went to school for Psychology and has a master’s in Special Education. All she wanted to do was be a stay at home mom, take lavish vacations, and wear nice clothes. Her husband Matt and herself worked hard to save money in order for Melanie to become the stay at home mom she always wanted to be.
Living the life of a stay at home did not end up looking the way she originally envisioned. She was struggling with her own personal confidence after just having two kids. Melanie started working with Beachbody in the basement of her townhouse on a carpet square and has not looked back ever since. Melanie fell in love with being apart of an accountability group which is what taught her to change her mindset and push through even when it got hard. She learned a lot about nutrition and found herself drawn to the idea of teaching others as well. Her husband was not on board for her to start a business originally.
She had no idea how to build a business online with two kids at home all while still being on her own personal fitness journey. Melanie uncovered her passion for teaching other people, fitness specifically, but it grew to loving the concept of mentoring people and teaching them how to build a business. Slowly but surely her business grew over the past seven years. The Mitro’s went from struggling to make ends meet to being able to pay off all off student loan debt. A year after, Matt was able to walk away from his corporate job. Still to this day, it is crazy for Melanie to think how times have changed. Melanie loves teaching all things time management to marketing and is seriously passionate for teaching others.
Make Chic Happen Podcast
People ask Katy and Melanie all the time on how did they do it?
How did Katy battle cancer?
How was Katy a teacher while starting a business?
And still build a business being in the top .01% of the company?
How did Melanie get her husband finally on board?
How did they both manage raising boys and figuring it out?
How did they get the correct people to engage?
It were these questions that were asked over and over again that made Katy and Melanie realize, that they need to Make Chic Happen.
Katy loves that the podcast is going to be focused on the grind, the nitty-gritty and all the little overlooked details that go into business ownership. Even though Katy and Melanie come from a perspective of network marketers, they are in the trenches right there with you building two businesses simultaneously.
Katy and Melanie know that you can’t do life alone but you especially can’t build a business alone either. Community matters in every single aspect. At Chic that is a big part in what they do. There are a lot of supportive people out there, who give us the energy to keep moving forward. Collaboration over competition is important now more than ever before. Even though Katy and Melanie have similarities, they bring different viewpoints to the table which makes Chic so unique. They want to not only provide information but really add value and share their own real life, personal experiences.
Chic was created to bridge the gap and help women entrepreneurs who are saying to themselves that they have this business idea and they know what it is but can you help me take that idea and make a profit out of it. Then, there’s the messy middle what we like to call it. It’s everything from building your website, to email marketing, to social media, to storytelling, and so much more.
We aren’t letting you build your business alone, so pull up a chair, grab your coffee, and let’s make chic happen. Don’t forget to listen each Thursday for a brand new episode!
