Your Guide to Going Live on Social Media

Going Live on social media is an incredible outlet for you to gain new followers, engage with your audience and build your trust & credibility!

If you’ve been following along with Chic Influencer on social media the last few weeks, you probably noticed that we have been preaching both LIVE and VIDEO content!

Something our community members have shared with us is the FEAR of going LIVE!

Listen, we get it.

There are no retakes on Instagram Live.

So to help you get started, we’re sharing a few tips to help you get started: Your Guide to Going Live!

Your Guide to Going Live

Let’s do it!

Hype Up Your Instagram Live in Advance

Regularly and strategically promoting an upcoming Instagram Live can make all of the difference when it comes to securing those all important views!

To do this, you could share Instagram Stories that detail the time and date of your Instagram Live, and even use an Instagram Stories countdown sticker to mark the event.

In your stories, you’re going to want to tell them exactly what to expect! This will also help keep you on track with your talking points (more on that below!)

Another question we get a lot is “When should I go live?”

Now that answer is different for everyone!

When choosing a time to actually go live, you’re going to want to look at when your audience is most active!

The best way to do this looking at your Instagram Insights. Under the Audience tab, you’ll find a breakdown of when your followers are most active online broken down by day of the week and time of day!

Consider Your Lighting (and Location)

When it comes to lighting, a more natural light is always the most affordable (and often the best) option. When we go live at Chic, we always have our ring light as back up should it be at night OR a cloudy day! (Psst: This is the light we use!)

You will also want to check and make sure there are no awkward shadows, too!

Have a Clear Content Plan

As with any video content, it’s super important to have a clear vision of what you’re going to cover in your Live.

Having a clear plan will help prevent any awkward pauses, and will also make sure you’re hitting all the important points for your goals!

List out your talking points but we suggest NOT writing down a script! You want your live to be AUTHENTIC and not staged.

Also keep in mind that technology is technology and it’s very possible that something may go wrong!

For example, if your live broadcast relies on viewers’ questions, have a backup plan in case you don’t receive any. This could be a list of questions that you’ve gathered earlier from Instagram Stories, or an alternate talking point.

Or if you notice the connection is a bit spotty, tell your views what to do should you lose your connection!

BONUS TIP: Repurpose your LIVE for future marketing efforts!

Did you know you can share your live to your stories for 24 hours?

Did you know you can tap the “save” icon in the top left to add the video to your camera roll?

YES!

But remember, you’re only able to save a live video right after you’ve ended it!

Once you’ve saved your video you can use it for an IGTV!
