Holiday Overload: Tips For Balancing Work and Life
The holidays can be so busy and demanding. You may feel like you’re being pulled in every different direction. You’re wearing way too many hats, and it’s hard to keep up. We get it! We’ve been there where every holiday season, it was hard to feel fully present. There were so many demands, and it was hard to find peace. Holiday Overload is a REAL thing! That’s why we at Chic Influencer advocate so hard for business owners to be healthy CEO’s. Part of being a healthy CEO is balancing work and life. This calls for intentional goal setting, strict boundaries, and scheduling your joy first!
Today, let’s talk about 5 tips for balancing work and life during the holiday season!
Tip #1: Schedule Your Joy First
What is going to bring you joy outside of what you sell or serve? What is going to make you feel joy this season?
Is it experiencing those holiday traditions with your family? Getting off work early enough to take your kids to look at Christmas lights? Maybe it’s time to yourself to recharge? When scheduling your joy, go into your calendar or time blocker, and set aside time specifically for joy.
First, start by sitting down and writing down the things that bring you joy. Then block off times in your calendar during this busy season to do those things. Often times during busy seasons, you may put off the things that bring you joy because you have such little time. But that is not having a successful life. You want your joy to be a priority! When you schedule your joy first, it actually helps you in the long haul. Experiencing joy in your life is what sparks your creativity and can actually make you excited about the work you get to do. One of the biggest factors in balancing work and life is setting aside intentional time to experience joy!
If you never allow yourself to experience joy, you will become resentful of your business. You’re more likely to give up because what you think is required of you to maintain your business is too much! We aren’t suggesting not getting the things done in your business that need to get done. But we are encouraging you to intentionally set aside time for YOU to recharge and experience joy and peace in your life!
Tip #2: Make a Monthly Plan
Next, take a look at your month and plan out very specific goals and when you need to accomplish them. Then, mark off time in your calendar to specifically work on those goals. If you aren’t strategic about your goals in the end of the year, they may fall through the cracks of all the hustle and bustle. You may not start working towards those goals until the last few days of the year. To relieve yourself of stress and procrastination, sit down on those busy months and plan out when you will be working on your goals. Block these off using your calendar or our Make Chic Happen Time Blocker!
Having a monthly plan, allows you to have a more clear weekly plan. Start being intentional and strategic with your goals in these months so you can more easily balance your work and life.
Tip #3: Work Ahead and Schedule Out
In addition to strategically blocking off time for your goals, start working ahead and scheduling out as much content as possible. If you go into each week, confident with what you’re talking about, it makes it easier to plan out your content. A lot of the times, people are working on the defense in their business. You’re releasing a big product. You need more team members. You’ve been meaning to work on your marketing calendar. But then you don’t have a strategy to know how to get it done! Things like this, easily get pushed off until the end of the year. You may find yourself scrambling and not balancing your work and life very well.
Schedule out your content using your marketing calendar. Batch the reels. Create the email sequence and schedule it ahead of time. Schedule as much content as possible so you can experience a stress free holiday.
Tip #4: Evaluate Every Request
Balancing work and life starts with setting healthy boundaries! Every request that comes your way should be evaluated against the goals you’ve set for yourself. Every time you say yes to something, you are saying no to something else. Be very clear about what you are saying yes to and what you are saying no to.
Start by asking yourself, “Is saying yes to this task honoring my priorities and goals?” If saying yes to something is going to cause you to have to say no to recharging yourself or reaching the goals in your business then it should be a big no!
So how do you know when to say yes? Ask yourself these questions:
-Is this task or activity the best use of my time?
-Will this task or activity have a profound impact on my bottom line?
-Will completing this task or activity make my business better?
Tip #5: Be Grateful For The Process
Last, the biggest and most critical tip we can give you to balancing your work and life this holiday season is to be grateful for the process! Being so focused on just getting to the goal will cause major discontentment. This looks a lot like,
“I just want to achieve that one thing.”
“I want to make this much money.”
“I will be happy when I accomplish ______.”
Start celebrating every small victory throughout your journey. There are going to be bumps in the road, but the process is what should be celebrated. Every celebrated win is making you better!
We often say at Chic Influencer, you want to get so married to the output (your efforts) that you can divorce yourself from the outcome because you have fallen in love with the actual process. If you get to the very end of all your goals and there is no joy, it would be all in vain. It would be in vain because you wouldn’t be grateful for how hard you worked to get there. You wouldn’t ever be fully grateful for where you are, because you weren’t grateful for what it took you to get there. Who you are becoming is so much more than what you are achieving! It is through the process that we become the best versions of ourselves!
